The Mindful Mutt: Dog care that gives back

The Mindful Mutt, a new dog daycare, boarding, and grooming facility Harvard Avenue in Allston Village opening this Fall 2021.

The Mindful Mutt’s mission is to provide our clients with peace of mind and their pets with holistic wellness. We give back through community involvement including therapy dog visits, foster dog sponsorship, and dog safety education for children. Founded in 2018, The Mindful Mutt* is expanding to its first brick-and-mortar location in the heart of Allston. They will offer structure-based dog daycare, kennel-free boarding, and enrichment classes, with grooming services added soon.

Structured daycare and kennel-free boarding are what set The Mindful Mutt apart from the pack. We believe that a truly happy dog benefits from a combination of physical, mental, social, and emotional care, with reliable leadership, consistent routines, and boundaries to flourish. Dogs participating in daycare and boarding enjoy enrichment activities and learn new skills throughout the day. The Mindful Mutt enriches your dog's daily routine, reinforces positive behaviors, and can even teach an old dog some new tricks.

How The Mindful Mutt got its start:

I have dreamed of opening a dog daycare for over a decade. After receiving my Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Services in 2012, I decided to try my hand at real estate in the hopes of raising enough capital to open a dog daycare. I worked in real estate with a top-tier luxury real estate broker in downtown Boston. I cultivated my marketing and sales skills while helping people fulfill their dreams of becoming a homeowner. After real estate, I spent a couple of years working as an Executive Assistant for two other successful people including an Executive Director at Brigham and Women's hospital and the CEO of a software start-up. These experiences were invaluable as I fine-tuned how to operate in both a large, bureaucratic organization and a small, hustling start-up. I finally got the courage to leave my administrative role and pursue my dream of working with dogs every day, which is when The Mindful Mutt was born. It was the most fulfilling decision of my life and I have not looked back since that day.

Before launching The Mindful Mutt full-time, I was already dog-sitting and dog-walking before and after work, and on the weekends. Since 2018, I have been full-time walking dogs across Brookline, Brighton, Jamaica Plain, Watertown, and Newton, and boarding dogs from across the city in my home.

Now it is time to take it to the next level with our first location!

Earlier this year, our amazing community and clients invested their hard-earned money into The Mindful Mutt's future location because they know there is a need for top-of-the-line dog care in our neighborhoods. With their help, we are starting renovations TOMORROW! And we are aiming to be open this Fall, HOPEFULLY, October if construction goes according to plan.

Giving Back Commitment:

A pillar of The Mindful Mutt is giving back to our community. We are supporting local foster dog organizations with resources at no charge. Soon we will be designing an interactive presentation for elementary school children to educate them on the best practices around dogs to minimize the risk of dog bites. We will also be volunteering at local nursing homes for therapy dog services.
